“Every seeker approaches the father on his or her own path.” Trust a reaper to take that piece of advice as unbreakable law.
OR In which Sam and Dean run an errand for the reapers, in order to help Jack with his mission to take out Chuck. It's just a quick trip to Purgatory to find a dragon's lair. What could go wrong? Set in between "Galaxy Brain" and "Destiny's Child".

This work was inspired by a lovely and mysterious piece by [livejournal.com profile] tx_devilorangel as part of 2020's SPN Reversebang. Check it out and give it much love! TxDorA's art sent my imagination off in a number of different directions, but I finally settled on this path thanks to my husband, who looked at the image and immediately said, "Purgatory!" He is my first reader and beta, so how could I refuse? The setting merged with the title of the piece, which is now the title of the story, and ultimately led here. So if you like it, you have TxDorA and my husband to thank--as I do.

Sam and Dean walk through a forest towards a pair of monsterous eyes

I wrote this for [livejournal.com profile] canonisrelative, who asked for some Eileen Leahy POV. Summergen is my absolute favorite fandom event, and the participants outdid themselves this year!

Summary: When the bright light broke through, a crack in the ceiling, a lighter flare in the darkness, she didn’t believe it at first. It was a trick, a cruel joke, made to raise hopes and then crush them again. But the light grew stronger, became tinged with purple and red, and she saw some of the prisoners around her grow still. Light spoilers for SPN Season 12 and 15.Read more )

Rowena sat on the concrete floor of the archives, tucking her feet into the folds of her skirts, and sighed. The breathy little noise seemed to bounce into the corner of the bunker walls and back to her, as trapped in the room as she herself. For all that she might have screamed for someone to release her, she knew that no sound would travel into the hallways, even if one of the brothers were at home to find her.

My Father's House header by Twisted Slinky

Bobby's house wasn't haunted. At least, it wasn't, until he met the Winchester boys, who have a way of stirring things up and raising ghosts that he'd spent a lifetime burying. (Spoilers for Bobby's backstory, especially 3x10, Dream a Little Dream of Me, and 7x10, Death's Door.)

A/N: This was written for 2019's SPN Reverse Bang, and written for [livejournal.com profile] twisted_slinky's lovely, melancholy prompt. The image of Bobby and the boys just spoke to me, and I was so happy to we able to write for it! Check out their art post, here.

Bobby Singer stood in the Sioux Falls cemetery and breathed in the deep green air. “Those boys,” he said. “I wish you could see ‘em, Karen. Hell, every time I see them, they’re outgrowing their pants and got holes in their sneakers. Scrawny little cusses, both of them, they come in, eat my food and run around the junkyard like they think they’re at Disneyland or something.” He paused, glancing away from the headstone in front of him, towards the cemetery gate. A car passed by on the quiet city street, then he was left alone with the sighing wind again. “I think you’d like them. And they sure could use you around. I’m not much good to them, just an old junkman myself—”

This was written for this year's Summergen and posted here first. [livejournal.com profile] alyndra gave me a great prompt, "Jack starts to hear everyone's thoughts and things get uncomfortable." The story takes place after 14x15, "Peace of Mind", and finds Jack attempting to help his friends and find peace in the night.

The Winchesters have a reputation, sure. But it wasn't always clear how important-some say destructive-they would turn out to be. (Outsider POV, Spoilers for episode 1x16, Shadow)

Jack left the two-room clinic through a side door. The night air slapped him with a cold breeze that hit his chest and cheeks. It stung the skin on his stomach where the cut pulled at him even though it was now clean and bandaged, but he let the door swing shut behind him anyway. He couldn’t listen to the man who was not his father mumbling to himself, saying the same name over and over again—“Teddy, Teddy—” Sam said that the man was disoriented and in pain. Jack just knew that the man laying on the examining table wasn’t Lucifer, or at least, wasn’t him anymore. He also wasn’t supposed to be here.

Billie said, “It’s over.”

Sam left his apartment and walked down the back stairwell to the selling floor, pausing for a second to glance around the quiet, dark space and breathe in the scent of old books and herbs that grounded him. Rosemary hung heavy in the air this morning, and he knew he was in for it today. There were days, weeks, that he lived his life not thinking about Billie’s last visit, now so long ago and far away, but today was apparently not going to be one of them. Whole months passed without his brother’s voice echoing from the corners of his memory, but this morning it was just a matter of time before he piped up.

If you’d asked Bobby, just before he opened his front door on that spring morning, who he expected to see on his old porch, he probably would have said Rufus Turner, come to complain at him about old times for a while. Or Deputy Mills with a complaint writ in hand. Hell, maybe even one of those young cusses that Ellen kept sending to him for intel, even after he’d practically begged her to stop. It would not have crossed his mind that it might be John Winchester’s boys.

So, I've been frittering away at this story for a while now (for, umm--3 1/2 years), and have just posted the final chapters. It's a story set after Dean's demon cure in Soul Survivor, and began in my head as a little bit of speculation about how the Mark would interact with the Samulet (if it were to suddenly reappear in the story). Somehow my little vignette has turned into a multi-chapter adventure, and I have had fun writing myself into and out of corners. Along the way, there's some angst, some soul-searching, some adaptation of folklore, some hurt/comfort, some music, and maybe some brotherly humor, too. I hope you like the ride, too!

The completed story owes something to Neil Gaiman and something to growing up driving around back roads across the Great Plains and up to the mountains. Like Sam, the setting for this fic was a landmark in my childhood, something seen from a distance while my family traveled cross-country to visit relatives back East. I have taken a few liberties with the location (there aren't any campgrounds that close, for example) but I tried to keep the feel of the place intact. One of the best things about the show is its road, how it embraces all of America and its many local legends, rather than a single location. More than anything else, this idea was my inspiration.

I participated in Summergen last year, and this was my gift. I love so much about this illustration--the expressions, the colors, Sam's floppy hair--but most of all, I love the ghostly feet in the foreground. To me it's a good a piece as anything I've seen in a graphic novel; in fact, it reminds me of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's Locke and Key series. I immediately wanted to write more of the story!

So when I had the chance to attend Seacon this year, I decided to bring it to have the J's sign. They both enjoyed it. yuriookino, this is really for you! Thank you for such a wonderful image--I hope you enjoy the autographs.

UPDATE 1/26/19: This little fic is now graced with some beautiful artwork, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] twisted_slinky and the Matchmaker Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] quicky_bang. Check it out down below!

The sun is dying, and the survivors - witch, demon, angel, brothers, fading god - gaze into its thick light, the red-rose hue of a world covered in smoke.

Just a note: I think this is sort of a montage, rather than missing scenes. As I re-watched the season 11 finale, I found myself thinking of all of the characters we've come to love (or hate) over the years and some of these snapshots just started to form. I hope you like!

Note: This was begun shortly after "Dark Dynasty" aired, and is my own personal reaction to that episode. Please forgive any silliness, and pilfering from other works than SPN.

Category: Gen, Episode coda to 10x21.
Disclaimer: Of course, they aren't mine. I'm just playing in their sandbox.

If you liked it, please let me know, and if you didn't, I'm happy for any constructive criticism, as this is only my second fic in any universe, and my writing skills are rusty. Thanks to my ever patient husband for reading and acting as beta for this story.

I might have to have the extra coffee today.

Since last Thursday I have seen a fair amount of SPN angst--there's the usual anger out there, and a fair bit of WTF. Not all of this is earned.Read more... )

I was ready for the SPN Hellatus. Really. I have enjoyed the season so far, I think in part because I have made an effort not to become embroiled in fandom angst. I have also avoided “reading ahead” by way of sneak peeks, spoiler articles, and much of the speculation that flies around the internet. I would watch the trailer at the end of each episode, and avert my eyes to as much of the rest as I could, trying to hold myself to minor postings on a few friendly sites. (I’m pretty much on the fringes of the fandom, but I do like talking about the show, and there’s only so much my husband can take!) It helped.

But December is long, Christmas is over, and I have free time and itchy fingers again—I took a look around at what some of the bloggers and entertainment site writers had said about this season’s road. In spite of the expected differences of opinion, and varying degrees of critical approval, I found myself struck by a common sentiment—“How is Dean going to come back to us?” The affection that most of the writers hold for this character, and for Sam, shone through whatever critical comments they made.

It got me thinking (“A dangerous pastime.” “I know.” --Sorry).

Wait, there's more. )

Yes, it's in the Supernatural world, a short tag to the episode "Soul Survivor." It's here, if you are interested:

http://archiveofourown.org/works/2560763

If you read it, please let me know what you thought. I'll just be over in the corner in the meanwhile--

Update 3/2016: This has become a WIP, much to my surprise, though at this point I'm not sure just where it should go, my original plan having been torn to shreds by this week's episode and buried somewhere in Hope Springs, ID. I do have some ideas, but I think I need to write fast!
