Snowflake Challenge 2021: Day 4

Challenge #4: In your own space, create some goals. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.

I could talk about personal and work goals, but I think I'll stick to fandom ones. OK, here goes (deep breath)--

1) I want to continue working on a fic series I began during SPN Season 14 that I called "(Fic Writer) picks the music." My plan was to use my playlist of songs related to Supernatural as inspiration for a series of one-shots from different characters' POVs. I thought the structure would give me incentive to keep writing on a regular basis, but I got stuck with the 5th song, "Thunderstruck". I would like to get over that hurdle and keep going!

2) Continuing with the fic writing theme, I'd like to participate in a big bang challenge this year. I've done Summergen several times, SPN Spring Fling and Reversebang a couple of times each, but these are based around gift fics based on prompts. I've never written a story "cold" and submitted it for an artist's consideration. In truth the idea terrifies me a bit, bringing back memories of waiting to be picked in gym class, which is a reason to do it, right? (Did I mention I'm a bit neurotic?)

3) Write more, paint more, read more. You'd think that as a librarian, I would read a lot. And I do generally have a book going, but there are so many shinies that distract so easily---

So that's a start for me. I'm excited to read some of yours!

I'm so with you with the books! I have one I've had at least a year and want to read but have been too distracted with other things, like reading fan fiction instead. I thought the various lockdowns would give me the impetus but it seemed to have the opposite effect.

The playlist stories sound like a really god idea, it's probably harder than it sounds though.

Yes, brave it with your Big Bang! I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think.

Your fic series sounds like so much fun! Go get your "Thunderstuck"--I believe in you!

And yesssssss, go get your big bang, too! I've done a few over the years. They're really not my favorite kind of challenge, but I do think it's nice to have had that experience, and to have committed to a Bang-length fic. Which, again, not my favorite, either to read or write--but it's always fun to experiment.

Thank you! I hope that I can come up with something good for "Thunderstruck". My problem is not too few ideas, but too many, none of which has stuck with me so far. And I can't make ALL of the AC/DC songs about Baby. Could I?

The length of the Bang-fic is intimidating, isn't it? Pretty much a novella. Which I haven't really done yet--I think my longest fic (not counting the one I wrote from cliffhanger to cliffhanger) is about 11,000 words.

Do you think the SPN fic and art community will stay as strong as it is right now? The thought that the fans will drift away haunts me, I admit.

I mean... why not. I frankly think the Impala gets criminally underrepresented in fic!

I have no idea what the fic and art community is right now, because I only interact with it as far as my personal journal and my flist. I stopped considering myself part of the fandom community years ago, because it was too much of a vibe I did not want. So I'm not the person to answer that question, haha. I imagine it will be one of those fandoms that always has a small following, though! It's got that cult-appeal thing going for it. Maybe the bad vibes will even burn off one day, and leave behind happy, curious people. XD
